Windows Vista, from Microsoft, happens to be one of the most popular operating systems, with millions of users across the globe. Windows Vista comes with a set of improved features and functions, making it one of the most sought after operating systems of all time. It comes with a built in diagnostic system that helps in finding and fixing most of the common issues faced by the users. Given below are some simple instructions that will help you in reporting problems with Windows Vista.

Reporting Windows Vista Problems

Before you start out the process, you need to make sure that your Windows Vista computer has permission for transmitting an error report to Microsoft through the internet. For this, you need to go to the Windows “Start” menu located on the left side bottom corner of your computer screen and click on the icon that is labeled by “Control Panel.” After that, select “System and Maintenance” followed by “Change Settings” and then click on the “Advanced Settings” for confirming that you switched on the Problem Reporting.

You need to report the problems that you encounter when an error dialog box is displayed on your computer. Having the problem reporting switched on, error notifications are sent to Microsoft once you allow Windows Vista to transmit the information.

Set up your computer to find fixes for the reported problems. Go to the “Control Panel” windows and click on the “Systems and Maintenance” option and then click “Reports and Solutions.” Select “Change Settings” and select the box that is labeled by “Check for Solutions Automatically.”

Support for Windows Vista

Go to the “Problem Reports and Solutions” center for looking for solutions and see your problem history. Here, you can see all the problems that you have earlier reported along with the available solutions within the “Control Panel” under the link named “Systems and Maintenance.”

You can also send problem notification to Microsoft directly about your Windows Vista problems. You need to include details like Windows Live OnCare support log in your submission. You can create this by double-clicking on your “Local Disc” and navigating to “Program Files” and locating the “Microsoft Windows OneCare Live folder.” Once you locate the folder, you need to run the “OneCareSupport.exe” file and then press the “OK” button. After that, you need to attach the “OneCareSupportData.zip” file that is located in the root directory on your main hard drive to your problem report.

Have a nice day!

As you are working with Windows Vista operating system, you can face certain startup problems. Due to these problems, you may not be able to start your operating system. Here comes the use of “Startup Repair Tool”. It can automatically detect and fix the issue with little user’s involvement, unlike the earlier versions of Windows.

How Startup Repair Tools Identifies Vista Problems with Startup files?

When Windows Vista startup file fails to launch the operating system by default, the Startup Repair Tool comes for help. This repair tool in Vista will analyze the startup files and then tries to diagnose the problem. Once it correctly identifies the real issue, it can fix it automatically. By fixing it automatically, the Startup repair tool avoids the need for intervention of the users. Then it will restart the computer. The Startup repair tool will also enter the details of the problems with Vista and the solutions adopted, into the Windows Vista event log.

You Can Fix It

At times, Startup Repair tool will diagnose the problem, but they cannot fix it automatically. In such instance, they will grant the access to the users over its tools in order to fix the issue or repair the system manually. Once the startup repair tool fails to detect the problem with Windows Vista, it will redirect your operating system into the last known working configuration. This feature is similar to that exists with System Restore utility. All the details will be saved in Windows Vista event log.

Vista Problems which is fixed by Startup Repair Tool

          Vista errors

As you all know that the startup failure issues in Vista are very difficult to fix manually. They are also time consuming process. The startup issues will sometimes lead to the complete reinstallation of the whole operating system. The actual problem in Vista will be with one file or registry entry. This particular problem can be easily solved by using Startup Repair Tool in Windows Vista. It can handle the problems that are related to missing or incompatible drivers, missing or corrupt system files, missing or corrupt boot configuration settings, corrupt registry settings, and even problem corrupt disk metadata.

Advantage of Startup Repair Tool

The startup repair tool in Windows Vista saves time for both the home users and network administrators. It saves the time of its users in fixing startup failure as the detailed information is provided in the Windows Vista event log.

Windows Vista is one of the operating systems launched by Microsoft, amid much expectation. But unlike Windows XP, Vista did not turn out to be as much a success as expected. Moreover, the operating system created lots of problems during and after installation. While turning on your computer with Vista, it might sometimes create problems during loading system files, or while starting up. In order to fix the issues with the startup files, you can make use of the Startup Repair tool, which can be installed on your computer. This tool can definitely fix the software issues with the files and operating system. But this tool is not suitable to repair hardware problems or virus infections.

How to solve Vista problems with the Repair tool

Take the installation disk of Startup Repair tool for Vista and insert it into the CD or DVD drive. Now select the Start button on your desktop, and select the lock icon that you find next to the arrow, and click Restart.

You will find a blank screen on your monitor, and when you receive the instruction to click on any key on the keyboard, do it. Now the setup of Windows Vista will load, and it will display the Install Windows message on the screen. You may choose the time, language, and currency format in your keyboard and then select Next.

               How to fix Vista problems

In Windows Vista, select Repair your computer and then click on Install Now, which you’ll find on the screen.

System Recovery Options will now appear, and it will have a list containing the Windows Vista installation. Select it and then select Next. The Startup Repair tool will now check for error messages and try to fix them automatically. Select Cancel when you receive the message to restore your computer. Wait for sometime till the repair by the Startup Repair finishes.

You may select Send information about this problem, or Don’t Send, which ask whether you wish to share your problem with Microsoft. This is optional.

Select View advanced options for system recovery on Vista Startup Repair summary screen, which helps you view and use the tool like System Restore. Select Finish, closing the Startup Repair tool and restarting your computer.

This will complete the repair activity of Startup Repair tool. Most probably, this would solve the Vista problems and the errors that occur during startup. If the problem persists, contact the Microsoft support team for assistance.

Most Vista users, like me, are not experts when it comes to rectifying Vista problems. Lots of internal as well as external factors can be responsible for the Network problems associated with Vista. But luckily, Vista is equipped with in-built tools that help troubleshoot without getting into the details of the issues.

Diagnose and Repair feature

This feature offered by Vista can help rectify problems including the common networking issues, in a few easy to execute steps. To utilize the feature , access the Network and Sharing Centre, and click on the Diagnose and Repair tab located on the sidebar. Ensure your network connections are proper. Then follow the instructions displayed on the window to execute the troubleshooting procedure.

If the troubleshooting procedure was not successful, try a different approach. Find the source of the network issue. This can make the troubleshooting process easier and more effective.

The Firewall

Like many other efficient operating systems, Vista also has an in-built firewall. It is expected to regulate the incoming and outgoing traffic to your computer through your internet connection. The firewall is enabled by default and allows web access based on the settings opted by the user. You can check whether the firewall is responsible for the network issues. If so, you can disable the firewall and check whether the problem is resolved. You can re-enable the firewall after troubleshooting. In order to disable or enable the Windows Firewall, access the Network and Sharing Centre and click on the Turn Windows Firewall on/off button.

If you experience difficulty in accessing your computers on the LAN, select the Network Discovery Settings from the Network and Sharing Centre and make sure that the settings for Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public folder sharing are correct.

Check your IP Address

Troubleshooting Vista problems

Your IP address can sometimes get corrupted and disrupt the smooth functioning of your network. So whenever you face vista problems or related network issues, make sure that the IP address matches the network and default gateway addresses.

DHCP Broadcast Flag

If your network has a DHCP server configured, you might see that the computers, which use Windows XP as their OS works just fine, and the ones using Vista are exhibiting problems. The DHCP server has a broadcast flag setting which is usually disabled in Windows XP and enabled in Vista. This setting can cause processing failure in certain routers. The issue can be resolved by temporarily changing the flag settings.

After checking all the possible causes, if you were not able to pinpoint one issue that is responsible for the faulty network, do get professional help from the Microsoft Support team.

Go to the ‘General tab’ and choose ‘Selective Startup’. Now uncheck the box ‘Load Startup items’. This will disable the startup items from loading when your computer turns on.

Click the ‘Services’ tab next. In the services tab, verify that the box ‘Hide all Microsoft Services’ is checked. If not, check it. This will ensure that the Microsoft services run smoothly on your computer and you do not select any Microsoft service.

From the list of remaining services, uncheck the unwanted services. Restart your computer and check if the print spooler service is working fine and you are able to print.

Sleep mode in Windows Vista allow a user to save all his works that are in progress and sets the computer to a low power mode. However, one of the Windows Vista problems that many users encounter is with its sleep mode. Follow the instructions below to fix the sleep mode issue in Windows Vista.

Check BIOS settings

The first step is to verify that your computer really has a sleep mode issue. To verify this, try to put your computer in sleep mode a few times. If you fail, you can conclude that there is an error with the sleep mode feature in Windows Vista.

Check if the sleep mode is turned off in your BIOS. The sleep mode in BIOS is turned off by default in most computers. Restart your computer and go to the BIOS settings by pressing ‘ESC’ or ‘DEL’ key. Please note that the key may vary according to your computer manufacturer. You will find the key to enter the BIOS setup while you turn on your computer. Follow the instructions to enter the BIOS setup and check the status of ‘sleep mode’ in BIOS.

Try System Restore

If your BIOS settings are fine, the next step is to go for a ‘System Restore’. For this, you need to remember the date when the computer’s sleep mode was working fine.

Then click on ‘Start’ and then in the search box type ‘System Restore’ without quotes. On the system restore wizard, click on the option ‘Choose a different restore point’ and select ‘Next’.

You will see the list of restore points stored on your computer. Choose the date in which your computer was working fine and then click on ‘Next’. The next window asks you to confirm your selection.

     get MS Vista support

Choose ‘Finish’ and then ‘Yes’ to confirm. Once the System Restore is completed, the computer restarts automatically. After the system turns on, click on ‘Start’ and then the ‘Sleep’ button to check if the issue is fixed.

Disable Screen Savers

Sometimes even the screensavers on your computer can be the culprit. To disable the screensaver, go to ‘Start’ and then ‘Control Panel’. Open ‘Appearances and Personalization’ and select ‘Change Screen Saver’. Choose the option ‘None’ and click on ‘OK’. Now click on ‘Start’ and choose the ‘Sleep/Standby’ to check if the issue is resolved.

If you are still unlucky and the above-mentioned steps did not help you to resolve the issue, go to the Windows Vista forums, where you can find discussions on the major Vista problems and its solutions.

Want to enjoy excellent services for your iPod or iPhone? Then it is better to update your computer with a compatible application from the Apple’s store. I think in this regard, the iTunes will do a great help. You can very easily update your iPod with new songs and applications using iTunes.

However, while installing this application in Windows Vista in which your system is currently running, sometimes you may find some difficulties especially when you are new to Vista operating system. More likely, not knowing how to install the program may develop certain Vista problems ruining your good working environment. If the system hangs up during the installation process, then it is a clear indication of lack of memory in your computer and the system memory needs to be upgraded in such a case.

Fortunately, installing iTunes on Vista is very simple which takes only a few minutes to complete the process. Here is a simple method to do the same.

Instructions

Go to the Apple’s website and click on the button labeled iPod + iTunes. On the right side of the screen, you can see Download iTunes 8 option and you should click on it. This version of the iTunes application will work in both Windows Vista and Windows XP. When the window refreshes, a Download Now button appears on the left. Click on that button and select Save File from the window that pops up.

Next, close the internet browser and locate the icon for iTunes.exe file on the desktop. You should double click on it to launch the installer. Accept the default settings of iTunes by clicking the OK button when you are prompted

Fixing Vista problems effectively

Then enter the credentials as an administrator to fill up Vista’s User Access Control requirements. If you do not have the rights of an administrator, you should get information from someone that does. Otherwise, the installation will not work properly.

You can finish the install operation by restarting your computer. Launch iTunes by clicking on the desktop icon. Now you will be asked to configure the preferences and you can decide whether to use Apple’s new features like genius recommendation engine. ITunes Genius makes recommendations depending on the music that is already there in the library.

You can seek any assistance regarding Vista problems using many resources available online. Follow the above steps properly and you will definitely be able to install iTunes successfully.

On the Device Manager window, next to the “Display Adapters” item Click the “+” sign. Right-click on the name of your video card and from the drop-down menu, select “Properties“. From the top of the Properties window, Click on the “Drivers” tab.
Go to your Internet browser and locate the website of your video card manufacturer. Search for and download the latest drivers for your device. Refer back to the driver version and card brand that you wrote down in Step 3. Ensure that the drivers that you download for your device are for the correct Windows Vista bit version, either 32-bit or 64-bit. Install the drivers and restart your computer. As long as no other compatibility issues exist, video card should be running correctly.
